“Make pretty pictures with light.”

As the sun went down over set at Lake Powell, a PA asked me what I wanted to do in the industry. This short answer came out immediately and unconsciously, and it’s become my Director of Photography mantra. 

Of course, you always have to consider the budget and shooting schedule, but I like to boil it down to two main tasks: Facilitate the Director’s vision and use my own experience and creativity to make projects look fantastic. I want the audience to feel as if they can’t take their eyes off of the screen and to be transported into a realm in which they’re touched equally by nostalgia, desire, and dreams.

The sunset over Lake Powell was almost fifteen years ago. Since then, I’ve worked as a Loader, a 2nd AC, a 1st AC and an Operator, always pursuing my dream of being the DP I am and fulfilling my mantra. Whether it’s on a commercial, a music video, a web series, or a feature, I like to think that there’s always a need for art.
